Hard water Stains, Limestone and other Difficult Stains

Most stains on windows, shower glass etc that are difficult to remove are hard water stains. Hard water stains are generally based on calcium (limestone) and or magnesium. Often these minerals are picked up from artesian or water accessed from aquafiers. In some instances it is rain water running down brickwork or water from irrigators that falls onto the glass.
When this water is left to dry it forms a minute stain. Over a period of time this minute stain grows and becomes apparent often enough so to detract from the clear appearance of the glass.

HARD WATER STAINS CAN BE REMOVED

There is very definitely a right and a wrong way to remove stains

SCOUR PADS-Do not use these unless you are sure they are genuine non scratch. Green scour pads will scratch glass and almost impossible to repair.

BLEACH-Simply does not work
METHYLATED SPIRITS-Simply does not work
CHEMICAL CLEANSERS-There are many around that can assist such as our CITRUS SHOWER SHOCK (Click here for further details). They will help in the early stages of staining but once the stain is set you will only get marginal results. Other popular brews can be based on Sulphamic  Hydrochloric acids. These can be very dangerous and generally need a contact period and used hot. That is normally difficult on vertical glass. Most consumer based Shower Cleansers are alkaline based, and while they clean they do not remove hard water stains.
RAZOR SCRAPER-Simply do not work.

SO WHAT DOES REMOVE HARD WATER STAINS?
